Sherlock: Series 3 Teased at Comic-Con
Show creators Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and executive producer Sue Vertue dropped some details on Series 3 of Sherlock at the Comic-Con Panel held on Thursday.
On resolving the Series 2 cliffhanger, Moffat said: “It’s a rational explanation, we knew how it was going happen. When you see the answer you’ll see yes, we knew in advance and it had to be plotted out… The important thing is to remember is there are only a few ways you can fall off the roof and survive. It’s not black magic.”
As for Moriarty, they confirmed Andrew Scott will return… as a dead body: “He shot himself through the brains dead. You don’t come from back from that.”
On Sherlock coming back into John Watson’s life: “That moment is electrifying,” said Gatiss. “We wanted to explore how it affected all the regulars – his friends and extended family.”
They also teased a wedding in the second episode: “Hot off the presses from 110 years ago – John does get married. We hoped you wouldn’t go sneak ahead and read the book!”
A clip from episode two showed Sherlock’s toast at the reception with a flashback to Watson asking Sherlock to be his best man.
Below, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman recorded a special video message for fans in attendance:
