We left the previous episode of The 100 bruised after the shocking revelations that those inside Mount Weather weren’t exactly the nicest (who would have guessed it?) and episode three, titled “Reapercussions”, didn’t hold back in following on from the events of the previous episode, jumping (literally) into the most action packed sequence we may have ever seen on The 100.

As Clarke promised to help the person she once wanted to kill, a desperate mission that could have left Clarke dead was extremely intense, as the plot thickened. Scenes with Clarke in the cage with Anya were some of the most thrilling we’ve seen on The 100, gripping us to every movement on the TV. As the unlikely duo fought through the exits of Mount Weather, more subtle mystery arose, with The Reapers possibly having an agreement with Mount Weather – another beautiful, unexpected twist from The 100, and hopefully one that will pay off. Events turned more sour, as bodies upon bodies filled the cart, causing Anya and Clarke to become crushed under the weight of dead bodies, who, subsequently, who could have been them. Deep, anxious breaths filled the scene as we left one of the best-executed pre-titles sequences we’ve had on The 100.

Tensions ran high for all during the episode, but more specifically Abby and Kane, who both also provided the episode with superb, subtly emotional and powerful performances. More debate happened to settle the issue of Abby, and the way she disobeyed Kane’s authority. Abby has always been a character who has taken risks for the greater good, and she has always mentioned this. Whatever Kane or anyone does, they cannot change her will to stand up for what she believes is right, proving her to be another successful, independent and strong female character on The 100. As a Grounder becomes captured, and as a result a member of The Ark nearly dead, we can only guess about the raging war that will soon occur between the two forces.

The mission to seek information from The Grounders also ran tensions to the boiling point, with Finn leading in anger and passion, with some of his actions possibly being seen as weak and malicious. As Finn found The Grounders in possession of Clarke’s watch, a meltdown occurred, as the group take hostage one of the Grounders, causing more mayhem and madness within the group. As mentioned before, during the second season, Octavia’s performance and writing hasn’t lived up to expectations, but this episode slightly improved her plot, mainly due to Marie Avgeropoulos’ (Octavia) extremely powerful acting. The tension between Octavia and the Grounder group led to Octavia being used as bait in an mission to try and find Lincoln and the other lost Grounders.

Things continued to be intense as Clarke and Anya battled their way out of Mount Weather and The Reapers; deciding to part ways, which only highlighted the weak relationship they have with each other. They both believe they have lost more than the other, leading to arrogance and a lack of teamwork, only suggesting the future may be dark for one of them if they don’t live with the mistakes and issues the other has. Clarke faced independence badly early, trapped with swarms of Reapers around her, she was rescued (if you can call it that) by those of Mount Weather, but is death better than life at Mount Weather?

Back at Camp Jaha, Kane made his decision to implement repercussions (hence, the title) on Abby due to her actions, as we rattled down to another intense and emotional scene for all. Paige Turco’s acting was superb, with the silence during her lashes both gruesome and unfair for the audience to watch. Turco made Abby seem believable, and reacted the way any strong, determined character would when being treated in this way by someone she saw as a friend. The 100 works superbly with comparisons, and this almost symbolized how life isn’t as horrific and dangerous as it was in space.

After a successful hostage mission, Finn and Bellamy led the attempt to get information from The Grounder, resulting in nothing, so they resorted to more vicious methods, as previously used on Lincoln. Finn’s emotions obviously caused him to lash out on the victim, causing The Grounder to explain (East? Should we really trust him?), but Finn obviously had had enough, and decided to kill The Grounder, much to the resentment of Bellamy (and I’m sure Clarke, if she were with him). The conclusion of this ultimately highlighted the way Finn has changed – he’s almost unrecognizable from his previous, happier, but more boring self. Hey, at least he has a little more depth and uniqueness about him now!

Octavia’s bait proved successful for the group, but unsuccessful for Octavia as her grief echoed throughout the woods when she realized Lincoln was not safe and with her. She, ultimately, becomes invited to the group, due to her help in the mission, but she still isn’t closer to finding Lincoln, and the real question is, how far will she go to get back with him?

Anya and Clarke soon found each other again, as Anya saving Clarke from those at Mount Weather, dangerously exposing them to the poisonous air. Only one way out from the hell they had lived in, Anya took a risk and jumped from the opening, whilst Clarke was more reluctant but eventually decided to jump. Unfortunately, the director ruined the sequence by slowing the jumping, causing it to feel less intense and look misplaced in contrast to the fast paced action scenes that have scattered the episode.

A more shocking revelation occurs as the episode fades, with Kane asking Abby to be Chancellor, something I definitely did not expect – another twist in The 100. Surprising, but understandable due to Abby’s strength and power in situations – but how will this affect Abby’s mission to save Clarke? Will she be a good Chancellor? Only time will tell.

Another shocking turn of events, as Anya decides to knock Clarke out, possibly leading to Clarke becoming a hostage. C’mon Anya, we were just starting to like you! Of course, the episode ends on another huge cliffhanger, as Lincoln is marked for a special program. I’m not thinking it’ll be very nice, either.

Verdict: 8.5/10

Reapercussions was possibly the most action packed of the season so far, with many intense moments and tension boiling for many characters. Many plots were developed and actions felt justified, however the intensity of revelations sometimes was wasted by silly direction, and we didn’t get any development on Jaha, which of course, is an injustice.
