john-simm-intrudersThe BBC have announced that new paranormal thriller series Intruders is heading to BBC2 this autumn.

The series stars John Simm (Doctor Who, Life On Mars) in the lead. Joining him is Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite, Norma Jean & Marilyn and Human Trafficking), James Frain (The White Queen, Tron: Legacy, True Blood), Tory Kittles (True Detective) and Millie Brown (Once Upon A Time In Wonderland).

The eight episode drama follows a secret society devoted to chasing immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others. From writer and executive producer Glen Morgan (The X-Files) and based on Michael Marshall Smith’s novel The Intruders, the series is a contemporary and chilling drama set in the moody American Pacific Northwest.

Kim Shillinglaw, Controller of BBC Two, says: “Drama on BBC Two continues to be a stand-out success and we have plenty more to look forward to this year, from the return of hit series Peaky Blinders and The Fall, to this striking new thriller. With a world renowned cast and an impressive creative team, this chilling and contemporary drama will keep viewers on the edge of their seats this autumn.”

Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, adds: “Intruders is a truly unsettling drama – eerie, intriguing, complex and compelling.”

Simm stars as writer Jack Whelan, a former Los Angeles cop with a troubled and violent past who finds the quiet, idyllic life he has crafted with his wife Amy (Mira Sorvino) shattered when she goes missing. Consumed by the search for his wife, Jack starts to wonder whether he ever really knew Amy at all…

Eduardo Sanchez (Blair Witch Project, Exists) and Daniel Stamm (13 Sins, The Last Exorcism) are sharing directing duties. The series is executive produced by Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner for BBC Worldwide Productions, Glen Morgan and Rose Lam for BBC Worldwide Productions and Sue Deeks for BBC Two. The series will transmit on BBC Two this autumn.
