Casting has been announced for BBC One’s highly anticipated new family drama Atlantis.

The line-up includes Mark Addy (The Syndicate, Trollied), Juliet Stevenson (White Heat, The Hour), Sarah Parish (Mistresses, Monroe), Jemima Rooper (Lost In Austen, Hex), Robert Emms (War Horse, Mirror Mirror), Aiysha Hart (Djinn, Honour) and Jack Donnelly (Dancing On The Edge, House Of Anubis).

Atlantis is a brand new, thrilling fantasy drama, set in a time of legendry heroes, mythical creatures and gods. The action packed 13-part series brings to life the vast store of Greek myths and legends re-imagined for a new generation.

The mythical city is currently under construction at sites in Wales and Morocco. Filming will commence in April and the programme will air this autumn.

Mark Addy says: “I am very excited to be invited along on this epic adventure. The scripts bring to life ancient myths with such a vibrancy and sense of humour; I knew I wanted to be a part of it.”

Sarah Parish says: “I am thrilled to be part of Atlantis. It’s a very exciting project and I can’t wait to start filming.”

Juliet Stevenson says: “I am delighted to have joined the cast of Atlantis, and very excited to be working with the team. This genre is new to me, so I am looking forward to a great adventure.”

Ben Stephenson, Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning says: “The fantastic cast announced for Atlantis is testament to the ambition and scale of Howard Overman’s scripts. Some of the UK’s best loved actors are joining our newest talent to take the BBC One audience to a rich and wonderful world where any adventure is possible.”

Atlantis was written and created by Howard Overman (Misfits, Dirk Gently, Vexed, Merlin). Executive Producers are Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy (Merlin, Hex, As If, Sugar Rush) and Howard Overman for Little Monster Films. Executive produced for BBC Cymru Wales by Bethan Jones.

The drama series was commissioned by Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama, and Danny Cohen, Controller, BBC One.
