Sherlock: 302 “The Sign of Three” TrailerSherlock has scooped seven Emmy 2014 Awards.

Benedict Cumberbatch won best actor and Martin Freeman best supporting actor in a mini-series with Steven Moffat scooping the best writing in a mini-series for the final episode of Sherlock’s third series – Sherlock: His Last Vow.

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama, says: “It’s great to see Sherlock being recognised so spectacularly at the Emmys. I’m delighted that the BBC is home to so much world class acting and writing talent.”

Steven Moffat says: “When we started on Sherlock, we thought it was a simple, private thing – good but not celebrated. We are still reeling from its success, and the joy it has brought so many! We came out to LA thinking we would take nothing home but the memory of a great night – to have won seven Emmys in total is something none of us will ever forget.”

Adding to this, Sherlock won four awards for the Creative Arts Emmy’s 2014 taking its total to seven awards – more than any other nominated programme. These included:

  • Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Miniseries Or A Movie
  • Outstanding Sound Editing For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special
  • Outstanding Music Composition For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special
  • Outstanding Cinematography For A Miniseries Or Movie

The hit BBC One drama will return to screens for a Special, followed by a series of three new episodes. Shooting on the special will begin in January 2015, with the series shooting later next year.

The Emmys celebrate the best in television broadcast over the past year. Comedian and Late Night host Seth Meyers hosted the evening and announced the winners for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards from Television Academy headquarters in North Hollywood, California.

BBC Drama received 11 nominations in total for The Primetime Emmy Awards 2014 – with Burton & Taylor, Dancing On The Edge, Luther, The White Queen and Sherlock all nominated for awards.
