Merlin Movie by Warner Bros. in Development
Warner Bros. are developing a Merlin movie, though it has nothing to do with the BBC series based on the titular character.
Despite the team behind BBC’s Merlin expressing a desire to get their own film off the ground, this will be an entirely new franchise.
Reports Variety:
Warner Bros. has closed a deal with “Game of Thrones” scribe Dave Hill and “Hanna” scribe David Farr to write “Merlin” for the studio.
Producer is Warner-based Donald De Line.
Hill worked his way up the “Game of Thrones” ladder, serving under series co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss before joining the ‘Thrones’ writing room. “Merlin” will probably sway to younger demo than “Thrones,” but the similar medieval setting explains why Warners would want to poach someone from that show.
